Almost everyone loves chocolate- but the calories, man, the calories! You’d think they’d have figured out how to create the perfect chocolate that tastes good without being a health and diet-killer, but no one’s done that- the healthy options tend to suck taste wise, while the tasty ones..well, you know how that goes.
Cue Nestle’s new “structured sugar”.
Produced in their factory in Dalston in Cumbria, the sugar in the new chocolate, called Milkybar Wowsomes, is “amorphous and poreous”, made by spraying sugar, milk and water into warm air and drying the mixture.
Nestle’s statement published by the Guardian explains: “The milk stabilises the spray-dried sugar and stops it becoming too sticky.” The sugar formed dissolves faster, like candy floss, and apparently both adult and child testers have found the taste works.
They even claim that Milkybar Wowsome’s oat cereal pieces are a source of fibre.
Healthier chocolates- who would have thunk it!
