Every guy will have a type of perfume he’s instinctively comfortable with, says Sandy Blandin, fragrance expert and founder of Nose Who Knows. And finding your signature scent isn’t all too complicated: You’ll feel confident wearing it in all kinds of situations, from dates to parties, adds Blandin.
With this in mind, consider if any of these five new fragrances are for you. All you have to do is seek them out (we’ve done that), try them on and observe how they each evolve over a couple of hours – from top note to base. Let your nose be the guide.

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio Homme Essenza
With a more intense wood-amber accord, this update of the original 1996 version also swops sea notes for freshwater, giving a cleaner scent that’s no less sensual. The citrusy opening leads to an unexpectedly carnal fusion of pepper, vetiver and musk.
$139 (75ml), available at Giorgio Armani fragrance counters and Sephora
L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Sport
Your search for a post-gym scent ends here. This aroma rouses with sparkling opening notes of citruses that give way to shades of nutmeg, leather and soothing woody accords of cedar and vetiver.
$90 (50ml) and $127 (100ml), available at Issey Miyake counters, including at Isetan Scotts
Calvin Klein Encounter Fresh
Notable for its slightly sweet mojito accord, this scent combines rich woody notes with invigorating bergamot, while extracts of light rum, cardamom and lavender impart a confident and elegant edge.
$62 (30ml), $93 (50ml) and $130 (100ml), available at major department stores
Fendi Acqua Pour Homme
Inspired by the Mediterranean, the Acqua opens with Italian bergamot, lemon and lavender, and segues to spices and herbs before rounding off with a pleasing, woody, leathery dry-down.
$85 (50ml) and $114 (100ml), available at Fendi fragrance counters, including at Isetan Scotts
Bottega Veneta Pour Homme
Bottled in a Murano glass and embellished with the Italian label’s coveted calfskin, this fragrance flaunts remarkable fir and pine accords underlined with pimento and leather notes. A sumptuous scent for the suit-and-tie man.
