  • 1 / 6

Want a stroker that talks dirty to you? How about a VR experience where it feels like you’re actually getting a blowjob?

Sure, masturbation is largely about the fantasy, but looking to 2018, toy manufacturers are all about making the reality. Forget cock rings and vibrators. Having a toy that jerks off for you might seem like the be-all, end-all of sex products. But just you wait. Sex toy companies are now taking it a step further and introducing male toys that raise the bar by incorporating dirty talk.

“There is a new company, Pleasure Products USA, that will debut a stroker for men that talks,” says Sherri Shaulis, senior editor of pleasure products at the industry trade publication AVN Magazine. “The 3v Starlet Stroker has a vaginal opening and 10 patterns of vibration, but also pre-recorded phrases and moans from porn performers to add another sensory experience. That’s going to be a big trend for 2018: Strokers and other masturbation devices for men that are capable of ‘dirty talk.’

Another sex toy company, Pipedreams, is also introducing an interactive sex toy, adding hi-fi speakers to and motion-activated technology to their line of body parts (think vaginas, butts, and breasts) so that when in use, the toy will talk dirty to you. “Talk to the stroker and it will talk back with sexual responses and moaning,” says Chelsea McCain, sex toy manager at Adult Empire.

Where dirty talk masturbators leave off, virtual reality toys take over. It’s not enough to just talk the talk. Going into 2018, toy manufacturers are going to make the entire masturbation experience as life-like as possible.

Masturbators are being paired with VR headsets, so you will be able to be fully immersed in your masturbation experience. The toys will also be paired with motion-sensing technology, so you can interactively synchronize your masturbator with what you are watching to simulate physical intimacy. “Want your masturbator to jerk you off strong or in soft slow motions? You can pick by using a phone app and syncing up your masturbator through Bluetooth technology as well,” says McCain, citing Fleshlight’s collaboration with the sex tech company Kiiroo as an example.

Women everywhere have been brought to their knees (literally) thanks to toys like The Womanizer, which uses a new suction technology to get them to orgasm harder and longer. Not surprisingly, that technology will continue to be improved in 2018.

“We will continue to see companies using suction, air pressure and sonic waves in pleasure products,” says Shaulis. “The popularity of products such as the Satisfyer,  has led other companies to come up with their own versions for clitoral stimulation.”

In the past, sex toys were clearly defined by gender. But in, today’s world both gender and sexuality lines have been blurred – which allows for more sexual experimentation, where people aren’t afraid to ask for what they want and try new things.

“I’m seeing a necessary increase in inclusion. The language surrounding the pleasure product industry is evolving as a result of our world,” says Kimberly Faubel, director of operations of sex toy company Clandestine Devices. “Specified genders are mattering less and less. I’m thrilled to be able to work in a world where we can make products for the people using them and aren’t limited to making something for just a man or just a woman.”

The jury is still out on whether or not sex robots will ever become a mainstream reality. “While there’s been a lot of attention in the media about ‘sex robots,’ the truth is they are not practical for most people. Aside from the cost, it’s also difficult to store them, and in some cases clean and care for them,” says Shaulis.

But the fact of the matter is, high-tech sex robots and sex dolls do exist, and toy manufacturers are determined to improve the technology. “Some of these dolls look so real you have to do a double take,” says McCain. “The manufacturers are nailing the features, making them as realistic as possible.” Many dolls have moveable heads, poseable joints, able to stand and the detailed eyes, hair, nails and height/weight of a real woman.
