This girl works hard. Really hard. Since The Married Men was moved to the morning slot, 20-year-old Jillian Lim has to be in the studios by 4am, prepare her notes and host the show with the blokes, then leave for school at 8.30am (she studies material science at Republic Polytechnic). She finishes classes by 5pm – all this from Monday to Friday.
Jill doesn’t mind the hard work, though. “I’m definitely going to be a full-time deejay,” she says. So how does a regular Joe even strike up a conversation with an attractive and accomplished girl like her? You’ll be surprised: Biceps aren’t essential; you only need to make her laugh.
“Intelligent wit is attractive,” says Jill. Before you mouth off slick one-liners, make sure they make a point, even if they’re not funny. In secondary school, Jill had to sell tickets for a fundraiser. She walked up to a guy and asked him if he wanted to buy the book. He asked if he could buy her phone number instead. “I thought that was cute, until I asked him how much,” says Jill. “He replied: 50 cents. Don’t lead up and finish with a stupid reply!”
Do your research. The best way to a lady’s heart is to impress her with your intellect. “I like boys who know more than I do,” says Jill. Still, there is a thin line between confidence and cockiness, she says: Think outgoing, not attention-seeking.
“People tell me I look intimidating and can come across as arrogant, but I’m actually quite shy,” admits Jill. Here’s how to spot the difference, according to her: If a lady is shy, she will play with her hair and fidget a fair bit. And she can’t look you in the eye –especially if she’s attracted to you.
