John Goehrke’s story is, more or less, the dude’s version of Cinderella. Back in February, he used Twitter to bet tennis star Genie Bouchard a date over the outcome of the Super Bowl. She not only agreed, but held up her end of the bargain when she lost.
And it seems like the date went pretty well; nine months later, Bouchard posted a photo on Instagram of the two hanging out.
“Look who came out to see me,” Bouchard captioned the post, complete with a kiss-face emoji and the hashtag “superbowltwitterdate.” It’s possible they could just be two friends hanging out, but the two appear to be pretty cozy for a casual friend hangout.
Bouchard, a 23-year-old Canadian tennis pro who saw massive success on the court early in her career, has been off the circuit with an ankle injury. Besides rehabbing, she modeled in this year’s Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition. And despite her injury, the athlete is clearly still in impeccable shape.
This guy is living proof how powerful confidence and a sense of humour really are. Goehrke, a 20-year-old college student, tweeted at Bouchard back in February “If Patriots win we go on a date?” after Bouchard voiced her confidence in the Atlanta Falcons beating the New England Patriots. The Patriots ended up winning, and to everyone’s surprise, most of all Goehrke’s, Bouchard flew him out to New York City for their date.
There you have it, guys. Goehrke is an average college student from Missouri. Bouchard is a tennis superstar, albeit one with with horrible ideas concerning pizza toppings. Swing, swing and keep swinging, because you never know what the hell will happen.
