We don’t advocate giving up your high-definition TV and state-of- the-art home entertainment system for a multimedia notebook just yet. But the Toshiba Satellite P745 makes a compelling case for that proposition. This all-new, feature-packed monster is pitched at users who are dead serious about digital entertainment.
Impressive Audio Performance
In keeping with Toshiba’s tradition of delivering laptops that offer superior audio, the P745 comes with booming Harmon Kardon stereo speakers. Be it from movies, music or games, the sound is sensational. To enhance the aural experience, the laptop has Dolby Advanced Audio technology that reproduces rich sound on any external speaker or headphones you attach to it. Not that there’s any need for speakers, though: The system features Toshiba’s proprietary Sleep-and- music, which allows music via your MP3 player to be played through the notebook speakers even when it’s switched off.
Embrace The 3-D Experience
Geeks that we are, the P745’s ability to convert DVD and boring homemade 2-D video content to 3-D definitely raises its sexiness factor. A software application called the Toshiba Video Player converts 2-D content into 3-D in real-time. You can then link the laptop, via HDMI, to your 3-D TV set to enjoy movies on the big screen – great for gatherings.
Another thing we like is its unique Resolution+ technology. This is built into the notebook’s DVD player software and converts standard-definition DVD movies. It gives improved picture sharpness and richer colours for a visual feel that’s closer to HD.
The P745 is no slouch. Armed with a powerful Intel Core i7 chip, it breezes through the most demanding processing tasks. For smooth graphics response, it has 2GB of dedicated memory and an intelligent energy-optimising feature that extends battery life. The 14- inch HD LED display with its excellent picture quality rounds off the package nicely.
