In a way, muah chee is arguably a quintessential comfort food for guys. It’s all warm, soft and mushy, and usually laded with a sweetened peanut powder- and which guy doesn’t like peanuts? The trouble is in these days of food courts and shopping malls, it’s not longer as easily found as before- and when the pang for a good muah chee comes up, you might be some distance away from the nearest hawker stall or pasar malam/food fair that might satisfy your craving.
But don’t worry- that’s what Men’s Health is for- tips and tricks for your everyday guy, who in this instance just wants some muah chee. Here’s our walkthrough on how to make it in just five minutes.
STEP 1: Stock up on some glutinous rice flour and ground peanut. They’re both available at most supermarkets, or from Phoon Huat- and cost no more than $5 dollars. You’ll need some oil and fine sugar as well- but those are kitchen staples you should already have.
STEP 2: Weigh up 100 grams of glutinous rice flour, 50 grams of ground peanut powder, 50 grams of fine sugar, 160 ml of water, and two teaspoons of cooking oil.
STEP 3: Stir up the oil, glutinous rice flour, and water well, then place in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes.
STEP 4: The mixture will now be a soft, sticky white paste. Mix up the peanut powder and sugar, then cut a large slab of the paste and toss it into the peanut sugar mix, and begin cutting it up into smaller, bite sized pieces. Voila- your home made muah-chee is ready. And no quibbling with the aunty over having more peanut powder mix!
