Footballers get sent off for all sorts of reasons – horrendous fouls, diving and time-wasting for example – but this one takes the cake.
According to The Guardian, Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, a Swedish player who’s part of Jarna SK reserve team, was sent off for farting too loudly while playing as a left-back against Pershagen SK.
Local media reported that he was sent off under “bizarre circumstances”, and Adam has – expectedly – hit out at referee Dany Kako for showing him a second yellow card for the ‘unsportsmanlike’ foul.
25 year-old Adam told Lanstidningen Sodertalje that he had to “let go” since he had a bad stomach.
“I asked the referee, ‘What, am I not allowed to break wind a little?’ ‘No,’ he replied … I don’t get it but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not.”
In defence, the referee perceived his passing of gas as “deliberate provocation”.
“He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore he received a yellow card.”
