Sex injuries are our favourite kind of injuries — unless they’re self-inflicted, of course. Here’s how to treat common bumps and bruises that can happen during a good night’s work.
A human bite is even worse than an animal bite, because the human mouth carries so many species of bacteria. Wash the wound thoroughly and look for redness, swelling, or discharge. If you notice these signs of infection or have a fever, see a doctor for antibiotics.
As long as your skin’s not broken, moisturiser should make the scratches go away in a day or so. If she clawed you until you bled, it means two things: you need to apply some aloe vera gel, and you’re doing something right!
Skinned your elbows or knees? Rub the wounds with an antibiotic ointment. Then cover them with non-stick bandages so they’ll stay moist until they scab over. Next time, throw a soft cotton blanket on the floor. Or let her climb on top.
When a fracture occurs, you’ll hear a loud snap or pop, followed by swelling, bruising, and excruciating pain. Put ice (wrapped in a towel) on your penis and have her drive you to an ER. “Penile fractures can be fixed surgically, but the longer you wait, the worse your prognosis,” says urologist James B. Regan, M.D.
Congratulations! Treat a raw penis like any other abrasion injury — use moisturising lotion that’s made for sensitive skin to help speed up healing. Try not to get carried away with this treatment.
Excessive suction can cause small blood vessels under the skin to break, spilling blood into the surrounding tissue and turning the area red (the young folks call it a love-bite). It’ll change from red to blue to brown to yellow before it heals in a couple of weeks.
Take a stray knee between the legs, and chances are the pain and nausea will last only a few minutes. If it’s worse, lie on your back and place a rolled-up hand towel under your scrotum to keep the blood from pooling. Then put ice (wrapped in a towel) on it for five to 10 minutes. If there’s swelling or discolouration, see a doctor to make sure you haven’t damaged a testicle.
Your leg muscles are the most likely ones to cramp during sex. You’re probably not well hydrated, says Lewis G. Maharam, M.D., a New York sports-medicine specialist. Stretch out the muscle until it stops cramping. To prevent cramps, drink one or two glasses of water before playtime.
