Unleash your inner stathead and track your real-time football performance with the adidas adizero f50. Dubbed the intelligent football boot, the adizero f50 is able to record and monitor on-field progress — just like elite athletes — thanks to miCoach technology. But besides being a ‘football boot with a brain’, the adizero f50 stands out for being the lightest, and possibly, fastest boot around.
Sports Science For The Masses
The adizero f50 has a cavity in the outsole unit which houses the miCoach Speed Cell tracker (sold separately). This device captures 360-degree movement and measures key performance metrics such as speed, average speed (recorded per second), maximum speed (recorded every 5 seconds), number of sprints, distance, distance at high intensity levels, steps and stride rates. The data is stored on board the Speed Cell for up to seven hours and is wirelessly transmitted to your PC or Mac device (yes, that includes your tablets and iPhones).
Monitoring your stats helps identify weaknesses you can work on, such as your sprinting ability, for instance. You can upload your data onto existing training plans on the miCoach website and crunch out customised coaching programmes to help you along. Inject some friendly competition among your buds and compare your stats on Facebook if you want. Comparison stats with top pros are also available, so if you dream of being the next Lionel Messi, stack your data against the man himself and see how much progress you need to make. Who knows, maybe that Messi dream isn’t too far away after all.
Improve In Real Life, Improve Virtually
Another incentive for you to train better and see your stats improve — aside from making the first team — is the online miCoach football video game. You control a virtual avatar who is based on your own real-life abilities, and you can challenge your friends with it. So, the better you get during trainings or actual matches, the more you’ll improve online as well!
Built For Speed
Metrics-measuring aside, how does the boot perform as, well, a football boot? The adizero f50 is designed to cope with the blistering pace of modern football without sacrificing control. It weighs in at a mere 165g, the lightest in its class. Speed is its key asset, from its electric looks to several features that accentuate the boot’s performance. It incorporates Sprintweb to provide stability during high speed movements; Sprintskin, a single layer synthetic for improved ball-feel and reduced weight; and Sprintframe, which uses geometrics and a new stud construction to offer a balance between lightweight and stability.
$299, available at adidas retail outlets and specialist stores. www.adidas.com
