When a guy meets a girl, it’s a romance. But when a guy meets a guy, a bromance is formed. The newest bromance to come punching their way into Hollywood is none other than the fitness lovers of Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. Wolverine and Matt Brody? What a combination. They would have knocked out all the other previous bromances.
Apparently, love is in the air for both Jackman and Efron, and it’s not hard to see why. The Greatest Showman indeed created the greatest fitness couple. While filming, sparks started to fly between them, and aside from their abs, they both shared a common passion, not just working out, but working out hard. For their respective roles in their previous movies, they put out an enormous effort to be super-fit.
It’s no secret that Zac Efron is dedicated to his health and fitness routine. The 30-year-old actor has long been open about his love and commitment to working out, getting swole, and eating right.
The body that had gotten all the girls screaming in Baywatch, Efron had to down egg protein shakes and all kinds of “funky stuff”, while doing morning workouts which includes benching, kettlebells, and heavy tire flips. Of cause, not forgetting that he destroyed the Ninja Warrior’s obstacles.
Since then, he has also been on point for his nutrition, which includes a special energy-boosting smoothie. According to Efron, it consists of both spinach and kale, blueberries and raspberries, a banana, an avocado “for some healthy fats,” coconut water mixed with almond milk, some chia seeds, and a touch of honey.
Hugh Jackman, on the other hand, was equally impressive himself. He has kept his body in shape for every one of his X-Men movies and was known to have a huge bench press at 142kg while also being able to leg press a mind-blowing 453kg. Cardio does not seem to pose a problem for him either, crushing a 2000 meters row in just seven minutes.
“For Wolverine, I ramp it up,” Jackman previously told Men’s Health. “I do an hour and a half a day in the gym and eat a thousand calories more a day than I would normally. And I train really hard. I crank up the Godsmack and Metallica. I yell and scream, which helps me get into the character and have a bitch of a workout.”
Their similarities do not end here, besides working out hard, they both were musical theatre actors as well. (Efron with High School Musical and Jackman with his turn in Les Misérables and his time on Broadway)
With all this love between them, it’s not surprising when Jackman praised his co-star’s performances with a song during the premiere of The Greatest Showman.
On a side note, Jackman revealed that the bromance almost didn’t happen
“I really wasn’t sure if this movie happened. No studio had ever greenlit in the last 23 years an original movie musical,” he said. “It took four workshops, so many people involved and to be able to do it here on the biggest, grandest ship in the world, it’s very showbiz. Barnum would have loved it.”
It would have been a pity, wouldn’t it?
Hopefully, their love will last, well, at least for working out.
