Mohd Firdaus, 31, Fitness Trainer
Nurlina Binte Iskander Siregar, 30, Pre-School teacher
Lets face it, meeting the love of your life is one thing, knowing what are the right moves is another. In the case of Firdaus and Nurlina, it certainly helped him that the moves he specialises in is calisthenics.
“When I first met Nurlina, she was teaching a Pound Fitness class, which is basically a cardio jam session inspired by drumming. After some conversation, I found out she injured her wrists previously, and I suggested taking up calisthenics and learning handstands to help her recovery. And that’s how we got together, and two years later, we got married!”
Nurlina agrees, sharing: “I never knew there were certain muscles at different parts of our body, which made calisthenics really interesting. I would recommend to anyone and everyone to try it out!”
Now the happy couple is expecting (which is why we haven’t asked them to demonstrate any workout moves) and navigating their shared passion for fitness has been one of the new challenges of parenthood.
“I took a break from working out during the first trimester, but I’m slowly picking up calisthenics again, though more regressive moves with Firdaus’ help,” shares Nurlina.
It’s also been good training for Firdaus ahead of parenthood, as he’s also learnt to be more patient. “I’m really used to a certain pace and tempo when it comes to workout, but I remind myself that Nurlina’s pregnant, so the way I usually motivate has to evolve- usually I’m more ‘garang’ (fierce), but now she’s noticed I’m more chill. But I have to- she’s carrying my first-born, and we have to be more cautious to make sure everything turns out right,” he shares.
