How does warming up before a workout help my performance?

A good warm-up not only pumps blood into the nooks and crannies or your muscle fibres, priming them for activity, it also warms up your tendons. "This heat makes you more pliable, so you’ll perform better and decrease your risk of injury," says Dr Nicholas DiNubile, a clinical assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in the US. The key is to break a sweat, whether it’s by jogging or doing light drills that replicate the activity you’re about to do. Don’t neglect this.
