Q:
What are those fancy bread in bakeries?

They’re known as artisan breads, and are traditionally made by hand because of the critical timing needed during each stage of the bread manufacturing process, says Angela Low, senior marketing manager of the Food Barn. Their ingredients also usually consist only flour, water, salt and leavening, without the addition of cultured yeast, preservatives or dough conditioners, says Low. Artisan breads also tend to have strong wheat flavours, irregular shapes and thicker crusts. Regardless of whether the bread is wholemeal or white, you can try baguettes with cheeses and curries, sourdoughs for soups and sandwiches (great because of their thicker crust), and olive oil flavoured foccaccias as a hearty pizza base.
