Q:
My morning coffee sometimes makes my stomach uncomfortable and leaves me constipated. Why?

The main culprit for your problem is probably the acid in the coffee. It may cause stomachache, indigestion, reflux or heartburn. In addition, caffeine also increases urination, which leads to dehydration. Without proper hydration, you may also experience constipation.

To avoid the above problems and yet still get your ‘pick-me-up’, consume coffee with a meal. This reduces the acidic effect of coffee. Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids – preferably plain water – after your coffee to rehydrate your body.
