Ask The Experts: Exactly How Much Is One Serving Of Alcohol?

As much as we all love alcohol, there's always a limit.

That depends on the type of drink you’re having, says Yong Pay Wen, a dietitian at Singapore General Hospital.

According to the Singapore Dietary Guidelines 2003, a standard alcoholic drink is any that contains 10g of pure alcohol. This is equivalent to two-thirds of a small can (220ml) of regular beer, one glass (100ml) of wine or a nip (30ml) of spirit.

If you choose to consume alcohol, do so in moderation. This means no more than two standard drinks a day for women and three standard drinks a day for men.
