MH Picks: Breitling Avenger Seawolf Blacksteel

The Breitling’s limited-edition Avenger Seawolf Blacksteel timepiece is an attack submarine – on your wrist. Even though the company is more famous for its aviator-style chronometer watches, the Avenger Seawolf Blacksteel is a diving timepiece which has been named after the Seawolf class of submarines in the US Navy.
The Avenger Seawolf Blacksteel is a chronometer watch which can operate at depths of up to 3000m (300 bars) underwater. At such depths, the water is helium-rich – the gas can seep into less capable watches, causing them to explode because of the built-up pressure. The Avenger Seawolf Blacksteel, on the other hand, has a helium-release-valve, which allows the gas to escape safely. This hardy watch is thus suitable to be used for saturation diving – a diving technique used by highly-trained professionals who work at great depths to conduct research or deep-sea rescues.
Still, with a broad, masculine case of 45 mm, and attractive black dial with yellow accent on the minute marker and sweeping second hand, this is a timepiece not only for deep-sea divers, but also for the man who wants to show that he has arrived. Of the 100 pieces of this limited edition timepiece available worldwide, 30 have been assigned to Singapore. Two variations are available.
$7820 – $8850, available at Watches Of Switzerland, Paragon #01-19, Tel: 6732-9793. Check out Breitling’s website and Facebook page for details and updates.
