Q:
How can I prevent post-shave ingrown hairs?

advertisement

Ingrown hairs or razor bumps are unsightly and painful. They result when shaved hair gets trapped inside the follicle or grows back into the skin. It can cause redness, swelling and scarring. Here’s how to prevent and treat ingrown hairs for better looking skin:

a. Exfoliate your skin daily with a gentle scrub like the Men Expert Anti-Sebum Deep Washing Foam ($9.90 at Guardian Pharmacies and Watsons). Its gentle exfoliating beads improve the surface of skin by removing dead cells and impurities. Use this gentle scrub in the morning and evening.

b. Don’t shave too closely, that means not applying too much pressure on blades when you shave.

c. Use a moisturiser that has a soothing active ingredient to reduce irritations, redness and swelling like peppermint leaf extract.

d. To treat already ingrown hairs, use a product with salicylic acid that can visibly improve razor bumps.
