Why Being Funny Can Get You A Second Date

Laughter can go a long way, especially when it comes to scoring that second date.


Want to bring her home? Make her laugh: 83 percent of women say your sense of humour can land you a second date, according to a new DrEd.com survey of 1,000 Europeans and Americans.

Time and time again, we find that women just dig funny guys. When we asked Women’s Health readers if they preferred a gigantic bank account or a gigantic sense of humour just last year, nearly 90 percent of women chose laughter.

That’s because your sense of humour can be an expression of intelligence and creativity, research suggests, so making her laugh can signal that you’ll be a better mate.

Plus, according to a separate poll Men's Health conducted, humour tells her that you can laugh at life, even when things get tough—a major plus when you’re looking for a long-term commitment.

If your nerves get the best of you, whipping out those witty one-liners isn’t the only thing that will score you points when you’re getting to know each other. More than 70 percent of women agreed that being genuinely interested in her views, personal life, and career will work in your favour, too, the survey found.

As for her biggest turn offs? A majority of women said that poor hygiene—like bad breath or body odor—is the top reason they’d avoid seeing you again. Having a terrible sense of humour, checking out other people, and treating your waitress poorly also topped the list.
