Subtle Touch

If you want to knock her socks off and win your girl’s undying devotion (without having to buy her a dozen diamond rings), rest assured – it’s not rocket science. Like they say, it’s the little things that usually count the most. Here are four types of guys who cut it for women – work at it a little to bring a whole new dimension to your relationship and become a man your girl will boast to all her friends about.

Creature Cuddlers
Women probably don’t need another reason to love Ryan Gosling or Joaquin Phoenix, but I’ll give you one anyway: They’re ardent animal lovers who fight for animal rights.

How a man treats his pet signifies his level of commitment, sense of responsibility and how he would potentially treat a love interest. (We’re drawn to such masculine, protective traits.) If you behave lovingly and are devoted to your furry friend, chances are you probably won’t steer clear of commitment. Frequent cuddling indicates affection and putting in the extra effort to groom your pet displays a willingness to work at keeping a relationship going.

Interestingly enough, the breed of dog a man keeps, for instance, also indicates his personality to a woman. We see the Rottweiler Man as a risk-taker who would not shy away from a challenge. The Labrador Man communicates stability and tells us he’s comfortable in his own skin. The Chihuahua Man? Probably a bit too soft!

Gastrosexuals
We think men who cook are sexy. The allure of domesticity is irresistible. We’re enamoured with the idea of you cooking for us; it doesn’t matter if the food is any good. We’re not expecting haute cuisine in Le Cordon Bleu league, but any dish with thought and love put into it is sure to score.

The harried career woman coming home to a warm, piping meal is like chancing upon an unexpected sale… certainly a pleasant surprise! If you’re a man who cooks, it shows us you’re not afraid to get down and dirty in the kitchen, and you probably won’t mind chipping in when it comes to household chores (hurray!). Oh, and we believe if a man has fun keeping his hands busy, he would prove a hard worker in bed too.

Writer Blokes
Fret not – we’re not looking for Hemingway types who can spout poetry at the drop of a hat. It’s more about the element of surprise, rather than how great a writer you are.

Random sweet nothings via text messaging win us over. Add to that simple Post-its with “I love you” scribbles on the fridge door and we’re sold. Such acts tell us you think of us at the most random times of the day apart from major occasions such as anniversaries or birthdays, and that makes it extra special.

Guys who fancy themselves as wordsmiths can pen a simple poem or even start a couple diary detailing all the funny incidents or memorable events that you and your girl have gone through, then dedicating this to her. Corny? Not when she pays you back in spades for your thoughtfulness.

Affectionados
The truth is that women long for good, oldfashioned romance. Deep inside, we all want to be the object of romantic envy among our peers. So display some degree of affection – yes, even in public. Hold our hand, put an  arm around our waist while waiting to cross the road or plant a kiss on our lips when we least expect it.

You see, a kiss triggers a cascade of hormones that invokes feelings of closeness. The best part? If done consistently, such gestures make us feel like we’re falling in love all over again. And  what can you expect in return? Big-time intimacy for such a simple gesture.

At the end of the day, women are engineered to crave love and attention from our special somebody. As cliche as it sounds, it really is the thought that counts.
