Meet model and graphic designer Fay Hokulani. This 21-year-old fox will be the first of several similarly attractive and vivacious women with personalities to boot, that MensHealth.com.sg will be bringing to your computer screens. If this first group of ladies we will be introducing seem familiar, it’s because each of them were named in Female magazine’s prestigious 50 Gorgeous People 2008 list, with good reason.
Why are we doing this? Because every so often, we get the feeling you might doubt the authority of the meticulously-researched, well-intentioned relationship advice we dish out. And how can we blame you? What do men know about women? Which is why we get women to answer your burning sex and relationship questions about women (See our Ask the Girl Next Door and Ask the Bolder Woman Q&As). And also why we are getting beautiful women with brains to tell you how to approach and maintain a relationship with fine specimens like themselves.
Which brings us back to lovely Fay, whom you’ve probably also admired previously in photo spreads for Maxim and other men’s magazines that you secretly keep under the mattress. Fay may have the exotic name and good looks, but she was actually born to Chinese, Indonesian and Peranakan parents right here in Singapore. The graduate in visual communication started modelling at 18, and lived in the States for several years, before returning to Singapore. Outside of her work in modelling and presenting, Fay also runs her own website, withlovefay.com, “to connect with all the health, fitness, fashion and beauty junkies all over the world, and share tips on how to lose weight, work out, eat healthy, live a healthy lifestyle and look good.”
When the “outgoing, spontaneous, party-goer”, who loves fashion, art and design, was asked by Female what she thought men find irresistible about her, she confidently replied: “I’ve been told that I give off a sensuous vibe.” You don’t say.
No surprise then that a confident woman like Fay is drawn to confident men herself. “The man who makes his mark with me, is the man who has the confidence to let his looks and his style communicate for him,” she tells us. Here are five more tips Fay has for you:
Fay’s 5 Tips for Becoming A Better Lover
Be A Gentleman
The man who impresses Fay on a first meeting is one who “says, “Excuse me”, “Please” and “Thank you”, and looks into your eyes while talking to you.”
Signal Your Interest
“Keep your sentences short. Soak the woman in with your eyes. It shows you're interested in her. Or, as one of my favourite quotes goes: The desire of the man is for the woman. The desire of the woman, is for the desire of the man.”
Don’t Be A Cliché Date
Don’t bring her to a movie. “You don’t talk during a movie,” Fay explains. “Take me to your favourite places. (No, not to make out.) I’d love dinner at the top of a tall building or somewhere with a fantastic view. It allows me to appreciate my surroundings as well as connect with my date.”
Give Her Space
“Understand that your partner is still an individual. If you’re with an independent woman who sometimes wants to do her own thing, let her. It’s nothing personal.”
Be A Confident Lover
When getting intimate with a woman for the first time, “make sure you know she is comfortable and proceed with confidence. Take the lead if she does not. Don’t worry: If she is uncomfortable, she will tell you.”
