Design Element

Consider the new Armani/Samsung LCD TV if you’re a techie with a living room in sore need of a talking point. This sleek gadget chucks the old form versus function debate out the window – it is a luxury television that efficiently melds both with its clean lines and advanced technology.

Launched at the recent Milan Furniture Fair, the flat-screen marks the second collaboration between the two brands following the debut of the Armani/Samsung mobile phone. Expect designer elements such as a handmade wooden frame, glossy black exterior and accentuating glass panel on the front (just because it looks good).

An elegant backlit remote control and a four-mode lighted power switch that customises the display of the two companies’ logos on the front of the set (for the showoffs) further enhance its style factor. The television also comes with a smaller, pebble-shaped remote for basic functions that rests at one corner of the stand, so fret not if you ever misplace your main clicker (considering how costly replacing one like this might be).

Getting down to the nuts and bolts, full-HD 1080p resolution ensures true-to-life clarity of images, while Samsung’s proprietary Digital Natural Image Engine Pro technology further enhances natural colours. The Korean company’s 100Hz Motion Plus blur-reduction technology also works to ensure that the pixelation problems that plagued early LCD screens displaying fast-moving scenes are truly a thing of the past.

If you feel sufficiently compelled to drop this magazine and run out to your nearest electronics store to pick one of these babies up, you might also want to think about getting the matching, glossy black Brahms tea table. Part of Giorgio Armani’s 2008/09 Armani/Casa home furnishings range, it has been specifically designed to host this new LCD. After all, a designer table just might help to appease the missus, considering all the nights you’re going to be spending vegging out in front of your new plaything.
