On the morning of 24 Apr, Polar organised a workshop on the benefits of tempo training for Men’s Health readers at Pasir Ris Park. Adrian Mok, manager of Polar and an endurance athlete, kicked off the session with a talk on heart rate zones. He explained what happens to your body at the different zones and levels of intensity, and how to tell which zone you're running in if you don't have a heart rate monitor strapped on (by the ease with which you're able to converse while running).
Over the course of the workshop, participants learned how to apply tempo running techniques to their training by running a series of laps under the supervision of the Polar running coaches. And at the end of the workshop, a lucky draw was held and five lucky participants each won an entry slot to the Adidas Sundown Mararthon 2010 (Half-Marathon category). No prizes for guessing what training technique they’ll be using to prepare for the race.
