When do I wear a regular tie and when can I wear a bow tie?

A regular tie is typically worn with a long-sleeved, collared shirt and also with a business suit. Bow ties are mostly associated with formal black-tie events, worn with a tuxedo. But there are professionals who choose to wear bow ties as part of their personal branding. In such cases, they wouldn’t be wearing the typical black bow tie, but those with prints and colours.
