Q:
What can I do to speed up my workout gains?

advertisement

Nowadays people want everything fast, from microwave ovens and overnight delivery to fitness gains. And advertising just encourages this with messages such as “lose 10kg now” and “gain 5kg lean muscle instantly”. So, if you’re not achieving results fast enough, there’s a chance you will begin to lose the ability to motivate yourself.

The fact is, in health and fitness, it takes time and effort to achieve your goals. Each day builds on the day before and before you know it, you will reach the goal that you’ve set.

To keep yourself going, set smaller incremental goals that can be reached in a week or two. For example, aim for four workouts this week, go up 2.5kg on your squat or bench, or run 5km in less than 30 minutes. Each incremental goal you reach will be fuel to your fire and before long, you will reach the top of your fitness mountain.
