Q:
What are the legal mods for a Singapore car?

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) website lists the types of modifications you can make to your car. You do not need to ask the LTA for permission for simple modifications like changing your seats or installing meters and gauges, but you will need to get written approval for major modifications like installing a sun roof or turbocharger, as well as changing your gearbox from automatic to manual or vice versa. Performance car enthusiasts often change their exhaust system. This used to be illegal, but the LTA now allows it – on the condition that a recognised test lab has approved the replacement exhaust. There are many grey areas regarding vehicle modifications, so analyse the rules carefully before deciding on the right modifications – it doesn’t pay to break the law.
