Q:
Some foods, like meat, are said to cause acidity. Is this true?

A diet that emphasises a high intake of meat does produce an acidic environment in the body. Health conditions such as gout arise when uric acid, a by-product of the digestion of meat and other high protein foods, accumulates in the joints of the feet, causing swelling and pain. However, cutting out all meat is not the answer. We must learn to strike a balance in our diet. Take in moderation as part of a healthy plan; these animal protein foods are not the main cause of chronic diseases.
