Q:
I offended someone on Facebook. Can I be sued?

Yes, but only if he can prove that the statements you made were defamatory. That is, the statements have to be made with the intention to harm his reputation or lower his status in the community so that other parties would be discouraged from associating with him. These defamatory comments would then have to be circulated – and Facebook does exactly that.
