The hardest part about dating is often the first step – and you, my friend, have a built-in intro. She’s probably wishing for a friendly face who’ll give her the lowdown on how things really work around here – and, what luck, she’s got a Good Samaritan to clue her in.

The trick is not to wait too long – or your window for helpfulness will wear off – or to come off as too desperate. Towards the end of the day, drop by her desk and ask how things are going. Tell her you remember what it was like when you first joined. Try saying: “Overwhelming, huh? Want to grab a drink after work?” Once at the pub, it’s up to you to keep the conversation flowing and reveal your extraordinary charm and wit – which will make it more likely that she’ll accept another drinks date even after you’ve coughed up all your dirt.
