Q:
How soon after I stop training will I lose muscle?

advertisement

Your body will start to cannibalise muscle tissue around eight to 14 days after you stop vigorous activity. This usually happens to individuals confined to bed rest – usually for medical reasons – who, therefore, perform very little or no activity. If you’re still going about your daily activities, muscle atrophy will not affect you dramatically. The loss of muscle is small, but it does happen. It’s best to keep your off time to under a week or you will notice a reduction in strength levels.
