How do I corner in my racing game without crashing?

A miscalculated turn can mean all the difference when you're speeding at over 300km/h, even in a racing simulator. According to John Wendl, game developer of Forza Motorsport 3, "Typically gamers get impatient as there are no real consequence for their action. They tend to go in way too hard and then you either have a tendency to over-slow or run off."
If you want to to take those corners and beat your lap record, Wendl, who's an amateur racer himself, suggests you take a leaf from real world competition. "Racers repeat there are two mantras; one is slow in, fast out and the other is go slow on slow corners and go fast on fast corners. That sounds logical but there's more to it than that. What it means is there's not a whole lot of time to be gained from slow corners so you don't need to be pushing your limits there. Even if it pays off you're only going to gain a fraction of the time."
"But in a fast corner, you're covering ground so much faster that even at a fraction faster - particularly if it leads to a straightaway - you're going to carry that advantage all the way down and that will add up to a significant amount of time over the course of the lap."
In Forza Motorsport 3 though, even the most casual racers can corner with crashing into walls or rock faces. They have introduced a user option called automatic braking or one-button driving where all you do is keep the throttle pinned, steer and follow the green line that appears.
