Q:
How can I determine the optimum training zone for my heart?

Visit a sports doctor for either a VO₂ max test or lactate threshold analysis. I recommend the lactate threshold test, because it pinpoints the corresponding heart rate zones for your training. A VO₂ max analysis is like knowing the size of your “engine”, while lactate threshold testing is learning how to optimise it. If you wish to self-administer, try the Conconi test. It can be conducted on a running track or treadmill.
